winter unannounced & uninvited

this is supposed to be autumn (march to may). and winter was supposed to be only knocking on the door. not barging in uninvited. but that’s just what winter has done. it has barged and unannounced. i was only a few days ago getting ready to write about autumn. with the beutiful trees with multi-coloured leaves. brown leaves at the foot of the tree making a collage of brown, yellow, and dashes of greens of the grass within the leaves. what a beutiful, meaningful, and thought provoking sight autumn is. all the old leaves making way to new. it resembles life itself. in spring the leaves suddenly sprout out with it’s baby greens and becomes mature at a fast pace. stays in the lush green mature state throughout spring, summer and most part of autumn and gradually and noticeably the leaves change colours, red, hue, yellow, – and in a state of yellow, brown, or red, it falls from the branches gracefully. surrounds the tree which it belonged to, and decomposes itself and becomes food for the plant.

this time around, quite suddenly the wind came in force and took away most of the tinged leaves and scattered it all over the ground. the trees look bare and the temperature has a chill to it. it’s not even middle of may and the max has fallen as low as 17 and the min has fallen as low as 6. not fair. winter has taken us all by surprise. kids have got severe colds. the adults are barely braving it. even 3 layers is proving to be inadequate to stay warm.

the only consolation is to hope that spring sets in soon without letting the winter have a head start and finishing on its usual time at the end of aug. it will be good to welcome spring. and bring an end to all these heaters churning up and eating up energy, multiple layers of clothing, and lose the cold that’s always following you around.

the heaters though, does make you feel so cosy when sitting next to it with a good book and a cuppa. sad thing is that it does not treat you well if it is left behind. the cold just gets stronger. a few meters away from it.

this does not mean that winter is not welcome. it is indeed a welcome sight after a long hot summer. but….. it should come gradually. winter makes kids enjoy talking outside to see the clouds coming out their mouth. winter makes it possible to see snow – a sight that is absolutely out of the world to people from the tropics. winter brings in more cuddles with loved ones. winter brings in the joys of a hot chocolate drink.
