it is amazing how over 10,000 more people voted for maumoon the second round when all oposition except Umar united.
this 10,390 votes is likely to be made up of all or most of the 2421 people who voted for umar the first round + 5145 people who during the first round voted for hassan, gasim, or ibra + all or half of the 5245 people who did not vote at all during the first round.
there clearly are 5145 people who voted for gasim/hassan/ibra during the first round but gave their vote to maumoon in the second round.
Following is a comparision of individual atoll comparisions from the first round and the second round of the 2008 election, just to understand a bit more where the 10,000 more votes were secured by maumoon.
Note: “MDP Coalition – 1st round” on the graph is actually MDP coalition + hassan/gasim/ibra
the coalition did not get any additional votes the second round [the orange line is below or on level with the yellow in all areas]. maumoon & PA did some magic in HA, HDh, Sh (drastic), R (amazing), Lh, K, ADh, M, F, Dh, Th, GDh & S. the only thing i can understand is that in S (seenu) many would would have been indifferent to maumoon as long as they did not have an adduan to vote for (i maybe wrong). but what happened in atolls like Sh and ADh and GDh?
i know, no need to ponder over this. but this is facinating ey?! tells a story in itself

Nice piece of analysis.
